Butcher Hill Falls
Located just outside the Musquodoboit Valley is this 0.3-km out-and-back trail near Upper Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Generally considered an easy route, although steep at the beginning of the trail. It takes an average of 4 minutes to get to the falls.

Carroll’s Corner – Mastodon Trail
This 4 km multi-use trail begins behind the Carroll’s Corner Community Centre and continues through a mature forest. Wildlife sightings are possible along the route. There is a lookoff area overlooking National Gypsum’s open pit mine where mastodon remains were discovered. The trail is open year-round with benches for resting and a washroom near the trail mid point.

Carroll’s Corner Community Centre Playground
Located behind the Carroll’s Corner Community Centre, this unique playground features swings, a climbing tower and slide and mud kitchen. Adjacent to both a basketball court and soccer field, there is there is a Municipal Playbox on site with play and sport equipment on site to add to the fun!

CornerStone Park
Stop by this quaint little park for a break in the gazebo or on the benches. Walk around and enjoy the flower beds, bushes and trees. The park is home of the largest free-standing hummingbird sculpture in North America which was donated to the community by local artist Bobby Annand.

Dollar Lake Provincial Park
Plan a day or weekend at Dollar Lake Provincial Park. There is camping, swimming, laying on the beach, playing in the sand and walking the trails. To explore the lake more fully arrange to rent kayaks or canoes prior to arriving or bring your own. The road and tails are also great for cross country skiing in the winter.

Fantum Falls
Discover this 3.7-km out-and-back trail to Fantum Falls near Dean. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 54 min to complete. This trail is great for backpacking, hiking, and running. You can drive close to the falls using the old logging road, but it is not always in great shape for all vehicles.

Fishing
Freshwater swimming with lifeguard service provided by NS Lifesaving Society in July and August.
The region’s pristine lakes and natural forests provide a haven for nature enthusiasts, and the Musquodoboit River is a prime spot for salmon fishing and kayaking. A fishing license is required for all fishing in the region.

River Oaks Golf Club is the perfect place for golfers of all skill levels to practice and enjoy the game. The 18 hole course is nestled in the rolling hills of Musquodoboit Valley, providing the perfect backdrop for a day on the links.

The Halifax Parks and Recreation’s Musquodoboit Valley Recreation Programming Office facilitates recreation programming in various schools and community centres in the Musquodoboit Valley. They also loan snowshoes, Nordic Walking Pole and Back Yard Playboxes free to residents.

Located at Musquodoboit Rural High School these facilities can be accessed by the public after school hours. There is no equipment onsite.

McCurdy Woodlot
This woodlot is home to a number of trails and a nature play space. These spaces are open year-round for families to explore. Be sure to check out the story board walk, which changes with the seasons.
The 2.6-km circular trail through the woods is generally considered an easy route. This trail is great for birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking. The gravel road that runs uphill from the entrance to the top is also great for walking. The trails and road are not maintained during the winter. Dogs are welcome, but owners are asked to pick up after their dogs and to be mindful of others using the trail.

Meagher’s Grant Playground
Located at the Meagher’s Grant Fire Hall, the playground features a fun play structure and set of swings. Relax on the bench while the children play. This Municipal playground also boosts a multi- purpose sport court.

Middle Musquodoboit Provincial Day Park
Many locals use the road that loops throughout the park as a walking trail. When the gate is closed (from October to May) you can park outside the gate and walk through the park by going around the gate. The road is not maintained in the winter.

Nature Play Space
Unlike playgrounds built out of plastic and metal, a Nature Learning and Play Space uses trees, plants, water and rocks to create a place where kids can enjoy healthy activity and learn to appreciate their environment.
The play space is open seven days a week, from 8:00 am to dusk, and is free of charge. Parents are reminded that the space is not supervised and they are responsible for their children at all times.

Nuttal Brook Falls
Close to Dollar Lake Provincial Park, a beautiful 20 ft waterfall is hidden…except for the faint trail that leads to it. The forest is quite typical for this area and the rocks on either side of the stream are super slippery and are kind of like slate.
Go to highway 212 to Dollar Lake Provincial Park. there is a short dirt road on the north side of the highway at N44 56.628 W63 19.654. Follow it and enter the wood following the faint trail to the stream and fall.
