Family Doctor
If you are seeing your doctor, they will come in review your history and ask questions to determine what the best solution to the problem you came in with. They may need to gather a urine sample or refer you to other professionals such as a Phlebotomist for blood-work, an X-ray technician for x-rays. Some patients require other outside services, such as simple prescriptions. These prescriptions are filled at the local pharmacy by a pharmacist. If you have a toothache, you will be referred to a dentist to create a treatment plan. If you have issues with your eyes, you will be referred to an optometrist for treatment. If you have muscle problems rather than a broken bone, you may be referred to a physiotherapist, or massage therapist. Dieticians will help with eating problems. If your problem is your breathing, you may be referred to a respiratory therapist.
If you are having trouble quitting smoking you would see the Nicotine Addiction Support Specialist who will work with you to develop a treatment plan based on their current needs and/or health concerns. The plan may involve group counseling, individual counseling, follow up and other supportive services.
