Provincial Government

This level of government is responsible for issues that affect the province or territory. These are matters such as: provincial income and HST portion taxes, hospitals, prisons, education, marriage licenses, registry of deaths, property and civil rights, rules of the road, determining the age of majority, registry of vehicles, maintenance of roads in counties, provincial housing and parks, forestry, income assistance.

The provincial government is made up of the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs). These are elected officials that represent a geographical area of the province called a riding. The political party with the most MPPs forms the provincial government. The head of a province is called the Premier.

Our current MLA is Scott Armstrong, Member for the Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley.
